The sessions provide students with a better understanding of what to expect in the workplace and to aid them in preparation for interviews for college, university, apprenticeships or the workplace. Following the delivery of these sessions, constructive feedback from volunteers to students enhances their understanding and can help them develop their self-confidence and self-esteem.
In the past, our volunteers have found the sessions have dispelled media-inspired myths about schools and have helped them to more understand the different pressures young people face today in comparison to their own school experiences.
We are always seeking additional volunteers (people who have had extensive experience of the workplace) to join our growing team – 46 to date.
As an example of how many students we engage with, the Academic year 2024-25 has seen us work with 931 students across three local Secondary Schools.
Who we are . . .
BridgeBuilders was established in 2016 as a project under the umbrella of Lichfield Christian Schools Work Trust. Its explicit purpose was to raise the understanding of the world of work for Years 10 to 13 students in Secondary schools in the Lichfield area.
Using the skills and experiences of adult volunteers, this was to be achieved by the delivery of employability workshops, mock work interviews and giving advice on writing CVs and Personal Statements
Who can be a BridgeBuilder?
Anyone with experience in interviewing techniques would be welcome to join our friendly team.
Our volunteers are often retired professionals who wish to 'give back' to the local community by sharing their knowledge and expertise of professional life with the students.
What's expected of You?
A time commitment of a couple of mornings during term time (for example), increasing if you have more time to give.
Any additional training will be provided.
